My research area is probability theory, especially interacting particle systems and stochastic spatial models. Examples of such systems include: epidemic models, competition models, forest fire models, particle motion models, spatial branching models, hybrid zone models, species area and abundance models, predator prey models, etc.
One of my favorite models is a version of the stepping stone model of mathematical genetics, the voter model. The two-dimensional version of the voter model clusters as time progresses, as shown below. Complete randomness evolves into complete unanimity.
